Quick Tips for a Birds Good Health

  • Replenish seed, replace fresh food, and refill fresh water every day.

  • Regularly add fresh fruits, vegetables and greens to your bird's diet.  These can be chopped and mixed with the egg food or scattered over the top of the seed.

  • Use multiple layers of paper to line cage bottom.  Remove soiled top sheet as needed.

  • Corn cob or wood shavings can be used to line the cage as long as there is a wire grid separating your bird from the litter.  Scoop out and discard soiled litter.

  • Your bird's cage should be placed in a room where the bird will be exposed to family activity, but away from drafts and direct sunlight.

  • If you plan to take your bird out of the cage, have the wings clipped by a pet professional.  This will need to be repeated after each molt.

  • Never take your bird out of the cage out of doors.  Even a clipped bird can fly away if frightened or startled.

  • Carefully supervise other pets and small children that are around your bird.

  • Do not use "non-stick" cookware.  Fumes from overheated cookware are toxic to your bird!

  • Offer several perches of varying diameters to exercise your bird's feet.

  • Always ask a pet care professional if you have specific questions or concerns regarding the health or care of your bird.
