Sun Seed uses only the finest ingredients available to produce quality mixes based on the experience and recommendations of breeders and veterinarians. These formulations are the foundation of a balanced diet for birds. The key word is foundation. In order to maintain solid, healthy birds it is essential to supplement the seed (or pellet) diet. Seeds are very low in vitamins K and D. Deficiencies in these vitamins can lead to skin, bone, beak and mucous membrane problems. Adding green and yellow vegetables to the diet provide natural sources for these essential vitamins.
Fresh Fruits and Vegetables can and should be offered as a supplement to the seed diet. Try corn, peas, green beans, broccoli, carrots, romaine and leaf lettuces, cooked sweet or baked potatoes, pasta, apples, pears, kiwi, bananas, maybe even a few walnuts, brazil nuts, almonds, or filberts. Some birds enjoy baked chicken wings (even with the buffalo sauce!), bones and all. Actually hookbills can be offered just about anything that their owners eat with a few notable exceptions:
And remember, fresh clean water should be available at all times.
