The purpose of The Pet Care Trust is to help promote public understanding regarding the value of and right to enjoy companion animals, to enhance knowledge about companion animals through research and education, and to promote professionalism among members of the companion animal community. Mission Promote humane and responsible care and treatment of companion animals; focus national attention on the important and vital role which responsible companion ownership places within society; provide funding for research, special projects and education programs; improve animal health and welfare; support human-animal interaction and bond; assist the public understanding of the role of the pet industry. Role Sponsor and disseminate information on companion animal programs and the role of companion animals in improving the quality of life of pet owners. Collect and disseminate educational materials to teachers and schools, the media and the pet industry on responsible ownership and pet care. Provide annual awards to graduating veterinary medical students who have displayed leadership with companion animals in the community. Interact with associations, organizations and societies to coordinate programs of mutual interest. Educate public on benefits of the human/companion animal bond. Information resource for the general public and pet industry. Services Sponsor programs supporting companion animal welfare and the benefits of owning companion pets and the development of educational programs demonstrating the importance of responsible companion animal ownership. Award grants to non-profit organizations and institutions for projects or special programs involving animal care, welfare, responsible pet ownership, or sponsorship of symposia for veterinary medical community, humane organizations, educators and the general public. Annual National Sue Busch Memorial Award to honor graduating veterinary medical students involved with companion animal welfare and support of the human-animal bond. Provides media information to disseminate accurate information on the Trust's Programs. Provides the "Animals in the Classroom" K-12 Teacher Workshops and Teacher's Pet Certificate Program open for School District Collaboration, Science Teacher Conferences and National/Regional Teacher Meetings.
